The corporate culture is based on a loosely defined entrepreneurial
culture. The firm is a bit reactive in that it seeks to gain more fee-
based revenue before building up the required resources to service these
clients. Therefore, at the top, it is more of a rain-making type of
culture, while further down, it is a continuous battle for resources and
dealing with erupting fire drills that come about due to trying to
satisfy many divergent needs.
The hours can be tame (for many at the consultant level it is 9-to-5)
but there are many long days during 'busy season' (coinciding with
quarterly reporting). For some analysts, there are weekends and late
nights. However, relative to investment banking hours or junior
associate legal hours, it is not too bad.
The dress code is business casual, unless there is a client meeting, in
which case the dress code is more formal.
NEPC stresses advancement from within. However, recently, most of the
new consultants have brought along a book of business, translating to
more limited advancement opportunities for analysts seeking to move to
consultant (unless they are connected already and can provide some type
of book of business).
