This was quite a saga - Initial contact was thru a head hunter who
searched me out. The initial interview with the company directly was by
telephone with the company President. Within a week a meeting was set
up when the President was to be coming thru my hometown. We carried on
a very detailed interview in an open airport lounge - not overly
private. A second personal interview was set up for two weeks later
when the President was again to be in town. This time in a hotel lobby
bar, with another senior management member I was not aware was to be in
attendance. Again, a very open place for a detailed interview.
Subsequent to these meetings I received a call from the head hunter with
an offer. This process did not go smoothly, as it became apparent the
head hunter was not relaying the same information to both parties. In
the end, the company called me directly out of frustration to see if I
was even interested (which I was), and we worked it out ourselves.
Unfortunately, the company had to pay the headhunter their fee anyway
(not really fair to them in my book). Lesson: Be sure you are being
represented well when a headhunter is involved, and communicate very
clearly
