I changed lives in 1995. I had been a professional songwriter and my
father was dying and I was tired of touring with a band. I lost my
songwriting position and needed a job. I went to the factory, asked to
see the HR director. Told her in the hall. "You need to hire me". She
set up two interviews. The most memorable questions was, "Will you pay
attention to detail"; I answered "YES" The job opening was parts
mover..drive a fork lift, deliver parts where they were destined. I
noticed the people with the cleaner shoes did most of their work on
computers, entering data, warehouse work , so I paid attention to the
paper work, learned the system on my off hours and advanced. There was a
major layoff. I survived as 1 of 7 after 243 were let go. They then
decided to close the plant. I was one day from layoff and I got a call
from my present location. They hired me, gave me a move package and I
started work as Inventory Analyst. In the mean time, I had put myself
through night school at the local JC and learned computer technology. I
began figuring out persistant problems and solving them, effecting
repairs and solutions. so, 2 years ago, I was brought into IT and no I
handle the budget.
