Cooping at NASA is an incredible experience. I was one of only 4 other
business coops, but overall they have around 50-70 coops any given
semester, obviously mostly engineers. Within 3 weeks I was doing tasks
that full timers were doing, and with little micromanagement. I was
negotiating small business innovative research contracts with various
small businesses and universities. The hours are fantastic. There are
two 'core' time periods you must be at work. I believe between 9-11, and
from 1-3. Other than that, you're free to come and go as you please.
Every day something was organized for the coops, by the coops. We would
eat tortillas on wednesdays, go drinking on thursdays, hottub on
weekends etc. There was ALWAYS at least 2 activities you could
participate in after work. We had beach parties, took trips to see
shuttle launches etc. It was a blast! The dress code for business coops
is business casual. I had a few presentations to the CFO and center
director was shirt/tie, suit was required. Opportunities for advanced
are somewhat limited. You get promoted pay wise just by putting in your
time. But what you do from day one, is pretty similar to what you would
be doing over your career. Overall, a GREAT place to Coop. Some of the
best times of my life. Many people, including myself, thought NASA Coops
would be geeks, but totally not the case. We drank more beer down there
than I did back at school..
