It is a lost leader of course. We do not expect to turn a profit for at
least a hundred years. We are under constant competition from the
European and Russians. China is an emerging competitor. Most likely in
the future there will be mergers. We are already in a joint venture
with a Russian entity with some limited partners from Japan, Canada and
Europe. In this venture Russia was a vocal but junior partner but
recent set backs here has made them more of an equal partner, at least
in effort though not in money. If revenue doesn't increase or we don't
close a facility they may become the senior partner.
We will be under a budget crunch for the foreseeable future with
limited new hiring possibility. Of course looming as ever is the
prospect of new rounds of earlier retirement.
So you can see how the morale here is low and most likely will remain
low not matter what sociallogical efforts management will under take.
But we do expect to make some exciting products that will exceed the
bounds of Earth. Unfortunately, none of them will be commercialized;
though a few parts of them will be to companies that may modify them
into commercial products. The people working on these products will
feel proud for a bit until their sucess bring the specter of budget
cutting because their jobs are done.
