The problems with MS date back first to the merger and second to John
Mack's depature. Post merger the 2 firms staid exactly like that.
People forget in 97,98 and 99 retail and the card carried a sluggish
institutional division. The lack of intergration is at the heart of the
matter now. Every one played nice and in the same sand box...until John
Mack left. Once that happened, the knives came out. Here we are 7 years
post merger, a company deeply effected by 9/11 and still two seperate
entities. This has created a bi-polar corporate culture where divisions
not only mistrust each other, they accuse each other of out right theft
from one another. Opportunities for advancement---do not exist if you
have ever wortked for a Dean Witter division.
