Culture: group-specific. On the whole - smart people, but arrogant,
pretentious and highly political, even at the Analyst level. Snobby
Waspy environment. You have to play the game right to succeed. Be
prepared for the company to view Analysts as peripheral temporary
workers. If you're not happy in your group or you want to focus on a
different area, do not expect the company to understand that you are
trying to build a career for yourself and assist you. Unless your
change happens to coincide with their need, don't expect any
assistance. At the Analyst level, your career development is of no
concern or importance to them. They take for granted that your weekends
belong to them and they are doing you a favor when they don't make you
come back during one day in the weekend. The attitude is that you
should be thankful to have a job there. Company does not take kindly to
feedback about Analyst treatment so don't bother to air them.
Depending on the group, Analysts get different levels of exposure. Some
groups are better at giving Analysts good transaction exposure than
others while other groups are better at giving Analysts client exposure.
If you get into the right group, the exposure can be great and you can
learn alot. However, get into the wrong group or someone's bad books and
you may find yourself marginalized and attacked on a personal level.
Some groups are not very politically correct or sensitive but alot of
people put up with it.
While most people have a great experience there, there is definitely a
group that have horror stories to tell. And when you hear a horror
story, it is REALLY bad. You may think that it is not professional or
possible for senior people to antagonize you in an organization like
this one but believe me, it does happen and people with the authority
to do something about it close one eye or event worse, contribute to it
and make your life a living hell on a daily basis. Good luck and I hope
you do not find yourself on the target board.
Diversity: There certainly is diversity but it's there to meet the
statistical ratios rather than people from all walks and races being
fully embraced. Elitist WASPY environment.
Hours: Long (most groups, not all)
Advancement: Great opportunity only if you play the game right. If not,
good luck to you. Highly Political. Trying to succeed based on merit is
a plan you should cross out of your strategy book.
