Milliken is a very conservative textiles and chemical company. I was
employed at their headquarters in Spartanburg, SC, but most new hires
can expect to work in one of the 62 plants across the southeast. The
corporate environment was quite stuffy, but the pay was very good.
Milliken employees are known to have the "work hard, play hard"
philosophy. They come to work at 8 AM sharp, work with their nose to
the grindstone, and leave the minute it is 5 PM.
Don't expect to work in any big cities, unless you enjoy Spartanburg or
Greenville, SC.
Plant dress code is khakis or other casual pants (other than jeans or
shorts) and a shirt. Your hair must be pulled back and no jewelry (not
even wedding rings). Headquarters dress code is a mix between formal
business attire and business casual.
There is little opportunity to be hired by Milliken unless you are a
college grad with little experience or just recieved your MBA.
Milliken is very good at promoting from within. While interning, I
noticed there are very few women in management positions, and recieved
feedback from full-time employees that my observations were correct.
However, I have heard that they are really looking for women who want
to excel and have a "take charge" attitude.
