There were 3 rounds with Merrill. The first was a typical on-campus
interview (2-on-1 interview). It was short and typical but very
important to make a good impression. The second round was the next day
near campus. This involved two longer interviews, but the questions
were very similar (why ibnaking, why merrill, how do you value a firm,
etc.). The final round entailed the typical "Super Saturday," which
started on a Friday night with a dinner and informal gathering. On
Saturday, each candidate went through 6 quick 30 min. interviews. At
this stage questions often varied: managing directors were more likely
to ask bigger picture questions, whereas associates likely would ask
detailed financial valuation questions and personality questions. Some
questions I recall:
"How do you value a firm and what are the different valuation methods?"
"Why do you want to do investment banking, and specifically at Merrill
Lynch?"
"Tell me about yourself and why you went to [your school]?"
