Merck had a very diverse group of people working in DC. It was nice to
learn to work with a variety of different people from very diverse
backgrounds. We basically ran our oun business and hours were normal
business hours to visit physicians. We worked out of our house, so I
had no office to go to everyday. We wore business attire daily. I was
disappointed at the area for advancement. I think there were multiple
places where you could advance however, I didn't feel that advancements
were made in a timely manner. In my situation I had made very clear my
intent to advance to corporate headquarters and begin training new
hires. I had excellent reviews for the past two years and was a team
player however was not granted an interview three times in a row. I
don't necessarily agree with the process in which Merck advances
people. I think sometimes promotions may be made based on senority
instead of merit or determination of an individual candidate. Overall,
Merck is very understanding as far as work life balance and wants you
to
be happy in your personal life as that transfers to a happy work life
most times. I do think that happiness in my position was directly
related to my manager. So who your manager is makes a huge difference
in your work happiness. Really a great place to work and offers job
sharing for say working mothers.
