I had submitted my resume for specific positions over several months. I
finally got a call from the recruiter who coordinated an interview with
the hiring manager. The hiring manager did not have a set of questions,
rather he asked questions based on what I said. My impression was all he
wanted to see if we hit it off and could work together. I almost felt
as if he really didn't care who filled the position as long as the work
got done and it didn't cause him any hassle. I was called in for a
second interview the next day and met with two potiential co-workers and
the VP/GM of the business unit. The interviews with the two potential
co-workers mostly consisted of them talking about the job to ensure I
had a very solid understanding of the job. A few confirming statements
that I had done similar work were all I needed to indicate my expertise.
I was not given an opportunity to ask questions at the end, I assume due
to time constraints. When I interviewed with the VP, it was a much more
structured interview in which I was asked specific questions about
scenarios of the position. How would I.., what have you.., give me an
example.., etc. One specific question had to do with a particular
scenario of ideas I had for a specific problem they were encountering.
It was the VP who recognized the contribution I could make, but
indicated that the decision will be left up to the hiring manager. The
VP gave me ample time to ask questions and did a great job of answering
them. It has been 4 days and I am awaiting further word on either
additional interviews, an offer, or a thanks but no thanks. I was left
with the impression that I am the top on their list. The recruiter has
been very good at keeping me in the loop of status and is very courteous
when I contact him.
