| Research Assistant |
The culture is laid back and is not stressful. Analysts are easy going
and are very flexible and lax with deadlines. The hours are strictly 9-
5, as research assistants are part of a newpaper union due to S&P's
publishing history. Dress code is business casual. Research
assistants
generally have simple duties at first, and can get very slow and boring
during the first few months. However, you will be one of 2 or 3
research assistants per sector, so you will get a lot of exposure. The
more exposure and experience, opportunities for advancement will grow
dramatically. Research assistants, if performing well, will be invited
to ratings commitees, management meetings, and eventually may be asked
to research reports for analysts. No one will hand you these
opportunities though. Depending on the research assistant, this
position can be extremely dull or can gain you tremendous experience.
