MTV Networks is a fast paced, creative culture that to an outsider,
can appear less than serious. That assumption would be an error, as
from the moment Viacom acquired Paramount Pictures in 1994, the
creatively fueled MTV channels have also been driven by high business
standards and the bottom line. It only looks like a frat house. It
definitely is not. On any given morning, you may ride the elevator with
Viacom corporate executives, standing shoulder to shoulder with pierced,
spikey haired music producers. The culture is diverse,
quirky, often chaotic, and always interesting. Despite being a pop-
culture mecca, poltics abound, as they do in any business environment.
Lots of back-door deal making and power plays, including the tension
between MTV Networks and sister company, Paramount. Management is non-
confrontational, so problems can fester. Successful employees tend to
be smart, creative, resourceful and have a 'get it done' attitude.
