Right now as I am doing this interview I am, I guess you could say an
"current employee" for the company, as of July 1, this coming wednesday I
will be a former employee because of, well at least to us in my
department, unexpected mass layoffs. Everyone in our center, from me who
has worked there for 11 months to my manager who has invested 15 years of
her life to the company, will be out of work next month. Granted, the
nation will not look at this as hitting them directly - we will just be
added to the percentage of the nation's "unemployed", and most people
won't give it second thought, keep in mind that it will affect America's
middle class... just think, down here in Denver, Colorado there will be,
give or take, 900 people out of work and looking for jobs or reaping the
benefits of the state, thanks to the people that complain about having to
pay taxes (which I might add, I will never do again). Many of those being
laid off are upper managment with degrees and tons of work expierience...
so if your company's advancement opportunities are not entirely internal
be prepared to really compete for that position you've been working so
hard for. I am one of the more unfortunate employees of MCI that is being
laid off, I am 19 with no college at all, and less work experience than
about 840 people that will be looking for the same type of work as me in
a struggling economy, my own place, new car, and bills. The second month
I started I was promoted to second level support with the companys' only
DSL Expert Team in the country, and mostly because that reason I was
assured that my job was secure. The longer I worked here the more safer I
felt because no one in the nation had or currently has the experience
and the knowledge of our internet service and phone service like us in
the denver office. They were civil enough to give us severance, I recieve
it for 6 weeks. The only thing is we will not recieve our first checks
for a month (knowing MCI, I am somewhat leary to believe that) and, for
the larger percentage of us, do have bills in july...what is the whole
point of this? It is just a middle class American citizen thanking Bush
for providing foreign countries with so many jobs, and to provide a wake
up call for citizens... YOUR JOB IS NOT SECURE
