Every job has it's own salary range based on the many salary surveys
Lincoln
participates in. These ranges are broad enough to let a manager 'pay for
performance', but still assure some equity for a job with multiple
incumbents.
The process to determine the range for a new job is as fair a process as
I've
ever seen, determined by human resource professionals based on the
competencies
required in the written job description. Bonus eligibility starts at
10% for
any
employee and is higher as you move into jobs with more impact on
results. It's
very competitive.
All this means a couple of things in my mind. The hiring manager doesn't
have
carte blanche to offer you whatever they want to, but do negotiate. If
you're
really good, they'll work with you. This, combined with the
opportunities for
professional development make it a good place to work.
