I left making $59,000 annually. I only received a 2-3% raise that year,
although I had only worked a half year previously. I scored between
a "meets
and
exceeds" overall. There is a set amount budgeted each year for
promotions,
bonuses, and merit raises. The pie gets cut among the group, and it's
not
divided equally. Those that need to be taken care of (the "identified
group")
are served first. The balance is doled out to those remaining, even if
you've
met or exceeded your objectives. For the job responsibilities in such a
high
profile company, I was surprised the pay was so low, but again, I
discovered it
was not based on market value.
As for vacation, I got two weeks, nothing special. Perks included free
Maxwell
House and Gevalia coffee in the kitchens, free Crystal Light, samples on
occasion
of your divisions goods (Beverages and Desserts in my case), free
product of the
month given company wide, tastings of new products on your brand team,
company
benefits like credit union, on-site gym, drycleaning, hair and nail
salon,
garage
parking, fantastic subsidized cafeteria, low-cost company store (which
includes
Phillip Morris products at a small mark-up for those who smoke - no
taxes!) I
was able to take a couple of courses in Chicago as part of my
development plan,
meet off-site at other Kraft locations, participate in brainstorming
activities
(and I'm not a marketing major). We also held quarterly meetings off-
site and
went on company sponsored trips as a Finance Group and Brand group.
There was
also an annual division trip off-site for the day. Management really
tried to
keep the energy up, the fun going and team empowered.
Also, because it was a PM site (smoking laws are exempt), smoking was
allowed in
the building and offices and conference rooms. People are very
considerate
about
it and it never posed a problem for me, a non-smoker. Actually, very
few Kraft
people smoked to begin with.
