Kimball utilized structured panel interviewing for almost every
salaried position as well as most manufacturing positions. Usually 3-5
people (the hiring manager, an HR person, and a team member or two make
up the panel) ask relevant questions -- most asking for examples of
when you did this or asking how you would handle that. The questions
are aimed at discovering how well a person fits in to an environment
with few rigid rules. There is alot of gray in this company and it
takes a certain kind of person to excel when decisions are made based
on the specific circumstances of this problem vs. using a rule book
where everything is black and white. This interview process is
somewhat informal feeling, not intimidating. It is usually followed by
a tour of the area/building or of the plant. Usually a preliminary
phone screen and one in person interview is all that is required.
