Environmental Manager Kimball International has 37 different facilities. It is a manufacturing comapny that deals with electrinics, office furniture, health care furniture, and contract projection television cabinetry and stands. The unit I work for deals with laminated office furniture and projection television cabinetry. I have been with Kimball for almost 25 years and have been in the present company for 19 years. Currently, we are trying to do more with less and learning how to make our Vision and Guiding Principals work in this environment. We strive to make "our people our greatest asset" yet we find we get bogged down in the production of the product and running the business. But, I have found that we are open to honest dialog and make changes accordingly. The culture is work culture, by that I mean, the people work very hard to make us successful. The people are the production employees, and the support and management staff. The president of the company goes out of his way to visit the facilities an a fairly regular basis. Diversity is an issue that is taken to heart. As a company we try to instill an acceptance of the diverse culture that are becoming part of our family. Hours depend on what your job is. You are expected to work an eight to nine hour work day, in my case, ten and eleven hours are not unusual because of what I do. Dress code is business casual with a relaxed Friday practice in place. There are many opportunities for advancement throughout all of Kimball. These jobs are place in the Kimball Opportunity Program for all employees to view. In my 25 years with Kimball, I have had good and bad times. I recently was going to leave, basically due to non-communication with my management group. The big change was that we finally did talk and realized the problem. Changes were made to prevent this from happening in the future. I have also seen where changes have been made in what we are doing with other employees so the same problem should not re-occur with others. I am very pleased to say I am a Kimball International employee.
