Kimball is a very family oriented company. The community where this
company is headquartered is much more suitable for a family person vs.
a young single type -- there's just not alot of night life there.
There are some clicks in this company but for the most part, one can
advance on the basis of merit. In the past, many promotions were
internal candidates although this has changed over the past 5 years,
leaning more towards external candidates all the time. Kimball is very
good about providing training and exposure opportunities to those
willing to go after them and use them. Dress code is mostly business
casual -- some higher level positions are business dress. The primary
hours of the office are 7:30is to 4:30-5:00 with the manufacturing
plants being 6:20 to 4:00 for the most part. Women in manufacturing
leadership positions is still a challenge for this company, from my
perspective. Due to the lack of diversity in the primary community,
the main general office employee base is not as diverse as it would be
if the community were more diverse. The Jasper area (community) is
getting better about accepting diversity, but it has been / can be
somewhat difficult for outsiders to feel like they fit in -- this is no
fault of the company, just the area in general.
