Director Within the Structured Finance Group, there is plenty of opportunity for advancement if you're a hard worker and do a good job. There is a career path, but exceptions can be made (postively or negatively) based on your particular situation. Typically, you need about 5 years of work experience, then you make Manager/Associate Director. After 2 years, you make Senior Manager/Director. Eventually (based on the needs of the group), you make Partner. The hours are pretty serious. Our group works with investment banks, so the work is erratic. Things rarely happen in the morning, so you can come in later (9-9:30 is standard). You don't always know when you will have to work late, but all-nighters (and near all-nighters) will happen. As an Associate Director or Director, you're basically a deal manager, keeping track of how things are going with your deals and making sure client demands are met.
