First year associates at Jones Day's NY office make a base salary of
$125,000.
During my first year (the 2003 bonus season) Jones Day awarded almost
no bonuses
in the New York office. I don't know about salary, as those things
tend to be
cloaked in secrecy here. For the 2004 bonus season, second year
associates
(those who had been at the firm for a little over a year) were awarded
a $15,000
bonus, which was half of market value, but also, salaries were raised
to $145,000
base, which is $10,000 over market (first years were also given a $5000
to $10000
raise, after having worked at the firm for only a few months, and a pro
rated
bonus). The total compensation package falls $5,000 short of New York
market,
but it also is only getable if you stay at the firm for your entire
second year.
