Johnson Controls (JCI)has been a great place to work for the last 13
years. The company is highly competitive in the Automotive Interiors
business. Calling on customers such as GM, Ford, Chrysler,
International companies as well, has been a highlight of my career
here. To see products from Design concepts to a reality has been fun
and knowing you made a difference in the final quality part is
rewarding.
JCI is also a great learning and training center. Opportunities are
always there to better your career or learn in other areas. JCI offers
a program to give selected people a chance to work in many areas before
actually deciding on the one you like best. This has benefited many new
hires to understand the business processes in each department so once
they do finally settle into a position they like, they already are able
to relate to other departments they are dealing with.
The culture is somewhat diverse at JCI. Detroit culture is alittle
diffent then the Holland base campus. Holland is alittle more
consevative than Detroit. Both campus' offer a "Care and Share"
program which helps non profit organizations such as rescue missions
and youth organizations as well as hospice. The company matches funds
per employee contributions. Last year the giving was well over one
Million dollars.
Work attire is more business casual with an occasional suit being
neccessary for customer presentations ect... First shift has flex
hours of work between 8-4:30. Hiring and interview process is tough.
You could experience a dozen interviews before any offer is extended.
Plus you could go through a dozen interviews and then not hear
anything. Follow up is up to the applicant. You must follow up often
and stay on top of Human Resources for answers. Your persistance will
pay off. Again once your in, Opportunities are all over. Performance
is everything...Perform and you will advance. Let your request be
known on where you want to end up and a plan will be drawn up to get
you there with achievable steps and goals.
Overall - JCI is a fantastic place to work - wages are competitive with
other Automotive organizations. Don't be surprised though if they
offer a lower starting wage. Within 3 to 6 months after your trial
period you will see an increase to appropriate levels.
Good luck!
