Working at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Store in Key West was one of
the best experiences EVER! I started working there part-time to help
out with the expensive Key West life (huge rent etc.) and quickly
accepted a full-time position because the place was an excellent
employer! To start off with the owners (Sunshine Smith and Jimmy
Buffett) really care about their employees. They are firm but
exceedingly fair and offer awesome opportunities. The store manager and
assistant manager are very nice and both work on the floor right
alongside cashiers and associate staff members. The culture of the
company is very "islandy" and fun - but serious in it's money making
endevours! Hours are broken up into two shifts: 8am-3:30 and 3:30-
10pm. The store is open everyday of the week so you can expect to work
on weekends and holidays. The store is closed Christmas day. Jimmy
also usually closes the store and resturant once a year in order to
invite the staff to one of his concerts (ticket, backstage meal and
transportation paid by the company)! Dress code is Key West casual -
shorts, jeans and Jimmy Buffett tee-shirt or sweatshirt. YOu get a
staff discount of 50% off anything that you can wear!! If you are a
good employee wage increases are regular and there is a full benefits
package. Supervisory positions are also available from time to time.
There are also stores in Charleston, San Francisco, New Orleans and
Orlando to which you can apply. Just double check to see if they are
Jimmy Buffett's company or a francise - as these are starting.
