JMP has grown tremendously over the past few years. Not to mention the
name changes (from Jolson Securities to Jolson Merchant Partners to now
JMP Securities), JMP has grown to about 100 professionals over the last
four years. Our corporate culture is a page out of the Montgomery
Securities playbook. We tend to be young, highly intelligent,
aggressive with an overwhelming sense of team that lends to the feeling
of a tight-knit family. Like most west coast investment banks, our work
week does not require the undying commitment that the New York firms
require. Nonetheless, it's eat what you kill and we're all very
motivated to work hard so we can afford the unbeatable amenities offered
in and around San Francisco. We're currently operate in a business
casual environment, although you'll see many an employee donning a suit
during the workweek as all client contact remains formal.
Similar to Montgomery, we place emphasis on our "promote from within"
culture. If one works hard, generates solid ideas and possesses the
proper team attitude, the possibility for advancement is limitless. The
partnership of some thirty odd partners includes quite a few who have
been promoted through the ranks, especially those who have managed to
make a business through the last two years of the bull market.
There's no doubt that the JMP family is excited as the market begins to
turn. Unlike some of our crosstown rivals who have had to make
reductions in staff, we've been able to selectively add in certain
areas, like technology and healthcare to counterbalance our leading
position in specialty finance. The team we have built is one that is
destined to succeed.
