| Manufacturing Engineer (Manufacturing Engineering Manager) |
The company has been in business, as I stated before, for over 25 years.
They
have had no proprietary products during that entire time (as far as I
know),
although they tried with Oculus (basically a camera on a stick for
inspecting
hard to reach areas, which had been successfully done by several other
companies,
nothing new), a packaged flat-panel screen for private planes (much the
same as
ones used in mini- vans currently, price was a limiting factor, as they
were not
willing to produce the screens, just repackage them), retrofit LED
lights in a
small bar (approx. 3/8 x 3/8 x 3) allowing them to be placed as your
fancy
permitted and they could have had custom lettering for use as indicators
or
warning lamps, such as the no smoking lights on a commercial plane (the
proto-types worked very well on the Engineering Managers 1936 pick-up,
or so I
was told). Just before I left the company they did purchase another
company that
made some sort of test equipment for a line of commercial airliners. How
that is
going I am uncertain, however, they have yet to integrate the BOMs
(bills of
materials) into their MRP (materials resource planning) program and if
they have
I am certain that the lack-luster drawings and designs I saw have not
yet been
converted to something resembling legibility. I also stated before that
the
company thought of purchasing another company that produced CRTs. Now
that is an
industry that people are clamoring to get into, as we know there are not
enough
TV picture tube manufacturers; oh wait, let me call the slide-rule
manufacturers
and let them know they can now play Pong. Listen, the company still
retains a
few talented people and if they were to use these assets properly they
would do
well. One of their engineers holds three or four (3 - 4) patents, but
they tend
to poo-poo all of his ideas as they did mine (back-lit, illuminated,
ruggedized
and sealed gamers keyboards, which are now in the market) and other
individuals
as well. If this company were to have a management (dare I say it)
??team?? that
had clear vision, the company could and should take off and become quite
well
off
and not be susceptible to the nature of military and commercial airline
contracts. I have applied to the company again, for the position of
Engineering
Manager, which I am more than qualified for, especially now after 2 ??
years of
work experience with this company. You might wonder why after all I have
said
would I choose to apply to this company again? Well, I must say, I liked
the
work
(when I was allowed to do it properly), I like to fix or repair broken
toys
(there is much to fix and repair there), I enjoyed the floor personnel
(that
deserve a strong leader to allow them to do their respective jobs), a
very
select
few of the staff personnel are great to team-up with on projects and
mostly
since
the prospect of 1 - 2 hour commute times is not high on my list of fun
things to
waste my life doing.
