Business Outlook

| Imperial Tobacco Group |
I believe the outlook for the company is extremely positive - we are on
the 'cusp of a wave' and I am hopeful that we can successfully ride the
wave.
Having recently gone through a major integration period, I am not
convinced that we have yet 'come out the other end'. E.G. There remains
a tremendous amount of anti-Imperial feeling around the organisation -
from individuals unwilling/unable to make the necessary changes in order
to strengthen the company as a whole. In the fullness of time, I believe
that the negative faction of our employee population will be replaced
with enthusiastic team members with one single vision - to continue to
strengthen the company's position, in its' worldwide marketplace.
Perhaps as a consequence of our period of integration, our competitors
currently seem more willing/able to make quick business decisions and
act upon them, (not always achieving positive results) while we are in
the position of tending to adopt a more pragmatic approach to business
decisions. I believe we need to return to the position of being more
willing to take some carefully calculated business risks. E.G. Be
prepared to invest in the future.
In terms of product offering - whilst we have some very strong brands in
some of our markets, I believe that we have a need to research and
further develop our portfolio of products. Our operating environment
makes it an extremely difficult task to introduce 'new' products (as we
are unable to advertise/promote our products in the majority of our
markets, worldwide) but I do not believe that we should simply
accept 'our lot' - instead, I believe that we should take-on our
competitors, through introducing exciting and perhaps 'non-conformist'
products. E.G. Attempt to pro-actively change the face of our strictly
controlled environment. (Although we might prove unsuccessful, at least
we will have tried!). In order to ensure success in the future, I
believe that we will need young, dynamic individuals with the motivation
and desire to assist and who are able to take us through the next stages
of the company's life-cycle.
I believe that our consumer/customer service is 'second to none' - we
are a highly professional organisation and I am extremely proud to work
with a company with very high corporate/employee ethics but after all, I
am 'Imperial' through and through.
