Corporate culture was skewed southern, especially since the corporate
headquarters were located in Rocky Mount North Carolina. Very resistent
to change, unmoved by cultural diversity (tried to use NASCAR
commercials featuring white men, in Detroit). My direct supervisor was
fired because of his continual attendance at strip clubs, discussing his
experiences there, the day after in the office. This was the culture -
it was male-dominated with women taking a back seat - this is one of two
reasons I left the company. The other reason was due to the fact that
in order to be promoted to Director of Marketing, an employee had to
agree to a transfer to Rocky Mount North Carolina. Employees were
passed over for promotions or other opportunities if they turned down
the move to corporate (regardless of experience, perfect fit into the
corporation, results, etc.).
