Honeywell is a 'bottom line' driven organization, very short term
focus. The merger of AlliedSignal and Honeywell started the company on
a downward sprial that we are still in. SBG (major division) management
has huge turnover and each is trying to progress their career at the
expense of the long term future of the business. The culture and
environment depends alot on the SBG and SBE (business unit) that you
work for. If you are lucky enough to work for a core business, your
business will receive more capital etc to grow the business. If you are
not core, the businesses are starved and sold - to bring revenue.
Before times became so tough, it was a great place to work. Diversity is
talked about but not understood beyond race and gender. Dress code is
casual which is terrific. If you are willing to relocate, you can start
in any business anywhere and bid on jobs throughout the company. Your
career will top out if you are not willing to relocate to SBG
headquarters or ultimately corporate hq in Morristown, NJ. You need to
look out for your own career, don't depend on the company to do it for
you. If you are willing to work hard and move on, you can have an
opportunity to learn a lot on the job - school of hard knocks. If you
can get six sigma certification it is very marketable from Honeywell. I
do not regret working for Honeywell, althought I definitely preferred
working for AlliedSignal where we had good pay, good benefits and
everyone received formal training. Layoffs or RIFS are the primary way
of reducing costs. Don't expect to retire from here unless you are
already retirement eligible. Get all the experiences you can while
contributing to the growth of your business and you can transfer
knowledge to other employers.
