The 2002 base salary for individuals with little or no post-collegiate
experience was $48,000. With over 2 years experience or a masters degree
one can expect in the low-$50s. The maximum received with both several
years of experience and a masters was $55,000. This case was a true
rarity.
The BLP compensation package includes base salary, 1000 share of stock
options with a 4-year vestment, 2 weeks of paid vacation, and no signing
bonus. The stock options vest 25% per year, starting at the end of the
first year when you become eligible for the company 401K plan. Most
individuals do not attempt to negotiate the base compensation plan, so
this is neither an advisable nor discouraged route.
During the 2 years of the program, there are yearly performace reviews
which are unlinked to one's salary. Currently, at the end of year one
there is a minimal and flat increase for all members of the BLP. Know
that when the program is over, the now former BLP'ers interview with
varying departments for a new position as well as a new salary.
Typically there is a slight increase in base compensation (with no more
stock options being offered), but the rare exception is a sizeable
increase in salary commensurate with a substantial ascension up the
corporate ladder.
