I joined THD's Store Leadership Program, a rotational program designed
to quickly train up MBAs and leaders for store positions. However the
hazing began early as experienced HDers were intimidated my a new
talent infusion and wanted to return to the old way of doing things. I
greatly enjoyed my first two years, but the centralization of the
business (all decisions coming out of Atlanta) and the egergious corp.
payouts to our CEO and EVP or HR while the stock can't seem to get
above $36 in 5 years is greatly disconcerting. The corp. culture is
one that doesn't allow for a home-life balance whatsoever and the
expected 55 hour work week, for those who want to achieve, usually
extends to 70-90. Also HD is a very reactive environment and doesn't
embrace an incremental or even logical approach to grow. Finally the
safety and LP divisions are like cowboys and help the store minimally
while acting as maverick auditors instead. HD currently spends far too
much money on executives, squeezes associates way too tightly, can not
deliver to shareholders at all any more, has the worst supply chain and
inventory management system of any big retailer and asks far too much
from their employees while giving back little in return. The managment
turnover is well over 60% from what I have heard. The CEO and EVP of
HR should be fired for this alone. I'm looking for work elsewhere. HD
is no longer worth my time or efforts.
