The Home Depot is the typical retail experience, your only reward for
hard work is being assigned more hard work. I say this because not many
people in retail are ever motivated to work hard, so the few who do work
hard are recognized by their supervisors and given the tough jobs. The
problem is there is seldom ever a payoff for working hard. And why
would you want a promotion anyway. As a supervisor or manager you get
to work holidays, weekends and overnighters. Very few ever get a true
reward for working their hind end off. Home Depot sets their people up
for failure. The training sucks so most of the newbies who want to work
at HD to learn neat stuff never do. Training means hours off the floor
and the managers can't stand that cuz they have to fill in and that's
not what they want. They like hanging out in the very small office. HD
did not go for creature comforts when they designed their stores, the
break room, training room, bathrooms and offices are all industrial in
nature. They don't want anyone to actually be comfortable. It's a bad
place to work. Unless you are already stuck in retail, I wouldn't
bother.
