Hill-Rom acquired my employer, Advanced Respiratory, formerly known as
American Biosystems.
This is the 5th acquisition I have been through in my career, and have
to say that Hill-Rom was the only acquiring company I've seen that
handled the process and the acquired employees in a fair and honest
manner.
From the closing of the sale, they never made promises of a rose-garden,
and were very straightforward about the fact that they didn't know what
would be left standing and what would not. They did promise to keep
everyone updated on the decisions as they were made, and did so.
The acquired employees had in many cases, been with the company for
years and were afraid and hostile about the situation. Hill-Rom was
patient with those emotions, and didn't look for any excuse to make cuts.
I personally opted for the severance package, which was as good as, if
not better than the average acquiring company offers. My decision was
based on having gone through too many of these transitions and not
wanting to do it again.
