| Legal Secretary |
This law firm is financially unstable. Attorneys are underpaid so are
secretaries. Partners are untrustworthy. Attorneys are fired with no
consideration or time to search for a new job.
Staff did not receive raises for 2 years in a row and when they did it
was only 2%. They are very cheap with their bonuses.
The dress code is formal but it only applies to some. There is one
particular secretary that dresses in sweats and sneakers and since she
has been working with the firm for 30 years and according to her she
has paid her dues, none of the attorneys dare to touch her.
There is no office support. You must do everything youself, from
making your own copies, picking up faxes and packages for your attornys
and you also get to pick up their lunch. If that's not enough be
prepared to cover for the receptionist at least 1 a week. Also, if the
other secretaries are busy, you get to help them and your work stays
aside if their work at the time is considered more important than
yours, however, you are still responsible for finishing your own work
without any help. The office manager works 7am - 3pm and does nothing
but walk around all day. She has no idea what whe is doing. She will
come in at 7:00am and if any attorney leaves her an secretarial work
she will do it (she used to be a secretary) and the rest of the day she
literally does nothing.
Be prepared not to get your regular holidays like Martin Luther King,
Memorial Day, Columbus Day, etc. You get some of these replace by Rosh
Hashanna, Yom Kippur, Good Friday, etc.
