HL lacks talent and management skills at all levels, period. If you
are
willing to abandon your ethics to politic your way to the top, this
firm
is clearly the place for you (note the incredible turnover at the firm;
as an aside, talk to the people who have left HL that will confirm just
how the people there operate if you are a prospective employee). Case
in point, the CIO has an ego of Warren Buffett, however, he does not
even know how to calculate yield or alpha. It is amazing that a firm
of
this calibur allows such people to advance. The co-investment team is
a
joke. When you hire a 60 year old man to be a hall monitor rather than
an investment professional, the results will clearly reflect this lack
of judgement on management's part. The fact that they recently
purchased a very poor performing hedge fund to augment their already
lackluster line of products further proves the lack of intelligence at
the firm. I hope they move into used car sales next; if you are a
moron, you might actually buy what they are selling. For you
institutional investors, you should clearly think of how you
define "fiduciary" prior to allowing this firm to invest your assets.
By the way, are there any conflicts of interest related to running an
asset management business and a consulting practice? I guess that is
only a question of who receives access to the best investment
opportunites.
