For the past three years I was very pleased at the warmth and ease of
working as a Hallmark employee. My dress code was somewhat casual, yet
functional so that I could work to carry freight, do returns, put out
product, etc. In fact, I was on top of the world until last year I
noticed something wrong. My hours had changed dramatically at one
particular location - Wal-Mart. In fact, it had decreased by over 50%.
When I was working 20-25 hours a week, right now I'm seeing anywhere
from 10-15. This is not right. As a matter of fact I sent two letters
to management (one to the president) about this dramatic drop. I always
speak up when something is not right and this screamed for an immediate
solution. When I get over a dozen boxes of freight at this particular
Wal-Mart location, it takes me two weeks (out of three days) to get it
worked properly. And when I have to change out Party Express and then
set up seasonal stock, the time I have to do it in is very unrealistic.
My latest letter to the president ONLY was handled irresponsibly - I
asked not to be replied to yet I was. This letter was also SHARED with
others when it's made out to one person ONLY. Since I am now almost
broke after a serious auto accident from last year and have purchased
another car with a substantial increase in my car insurance premium, now
is NOT the time to see a decrease in work hours. Even Wal-Mart
management is concerned about my hours - and rightly so. Out of all the
four accounts where sales have increased, Wal-Mart remains one of the
lowest. When I have requested more time to turn this around, I am
ignored and dismissed. As a matter of fact, I feel I'm being "punished"
by being given these low hours.
