Had 3 rounds of interviews. First one was with HR representative. She
spent most of the time selling the organization and the people,
particularly the CIO. Very strong presentation. Her questions focused
mostly on personality, style, etc. Looking for a fit with the CIO's
team.
Second round of interviews was with a member of the CIO's direct report
team. There was a nervousness to the man that was disturbing. He had
been with the company for years but had few questions about
technology. Asked about my experience but did not drill down either.
Actually spent time cautioning me about the demands at Guardian.
During this round I also met with a project lead in the technology
organization. This is where I was grilled on techie details.
Third round was with the CIO. Seemed like a decent person, very bright
and well-read. He has the irritating habit of breaking away from the
conversation to look at his e-mail (80% of the interview time,) answer
phone calls from his assistant and and someone in his family, and even
to check voice mail. He did not leave me with a good feeling. I was
surprized when I was offered the job.
