| Application Manager for Flame Retardants |
First interview with a head hunter. Second with three future colleagues
in Belgium, third with vice president and direct boss in Switserland
fourth with some 8 US colleagues in West Lafayette.
Total time 4 months, starting Feb 98. Like all job interviews,
effectiveness varied per person. Most important detail was the fact that
my future boss, a horrible German, was announced to be leaving the
company during the final round of interviews in the US. Impressive
description of Great Lakes strength in bromine chemistry, but clear lack
of a broad understanding of the polymer market. An item that influenced
me positively was the question from the US R&D director concerning my
style of management: tight micro management or more flexible, with the
emphasis on people involved.
