Working for Global Crossing is a struggle - the hatchet is always
hovering over your shoulder and there is a really unhealthy
competitiveness between employees to get a foot above. This is fuelled
by atmosphere that those at the botoom will go next. The corporate
culture is a pyramid structure with defined emphasis on line reports.
Managment especially middle maanagement are inexperienced telecom
engineers hurtled into managerial roles after the entreprenuers left
with their wheelbarrows on cash.
THere is no diversity in background in the UK - you are male, from a
telco background and have previously worked with colleagues at another
telco - it is very old boys clubs at a working class level. Dress code
is business casual for most staff but everyone does not adhere to this
and there might as well be no policy whatsoever. There is no social
aspect to the culture here. People come to work and get out as soon as
possible without upsetting anyone. Your life outside GBLX is your only
rest from the stressfull day here. Opportunity for advancement is non
existant. There is no such thing. They are not even backfiling people
who resign. There is no grading structure and no opportunity to be
creative. You are cultured not to think but to work, and work they way
they want you to.
