The company I used to work for, Georgia Pacific, before it shut down
was a stressful and fast paced manufacturing plant, and had to work 10-
12 hour shifts, 5-7 days a week for about 1-6 months,on a case to case
basis. Safety was preached, practice, and enforced to a degree. How ever
production had more priority, than safety itself. There was a wide
diversity of people who always gave 100%.No shorts, loose or torn
clothing, and no jewlry was allowed during working hours.Persons with
long hair had to have their hair in a net. Advancement within the plant
was a bidding process based on attendance, senority, experinced, and how
fair and impartial management is in the selection process. In some
cases the management will neglect the selection process. There were many
incidents and cases of discrimination and harassment against the
employees and have won their case through the union,or in court, and out
of court settlements, and some are repeat offenders. The good side is we
would get free lunches,shirts,jackets,gift cards,prize drawings,safty
gear out of the companys expense, based on poduction performances, and
where the plant as a whole stands in our safety program.
