| Operations Supervisor/Team Leader |
While General Mills is an outstanding, beware of working "where the
rubber meets the road", in one of its manufacturing plants/factories--
especially if you are well-educated and think of yourself as a
competent leader and manager. The plant environment is like taking a
step back in time...about 50 years. A union plant is sure to make your
life as a supervisor/team leader hell. Forget about ideas
like, "holding employees accountable", using contemporary management
techniques, or applying performance management systems...a union
environment does not allow for it. Everything is a battle. You'll
basically be a well-paid babysitter working 10-hour shifts (weekends
too) and feeling like a machine going through the daily routine. The
website outlines awesome benefits and perks, but working in a plant is
not like working at corporate headquarters. No flex hours, no summer
hours, no employee networks, no fitness center or coffee shop...it is a
TOTALLY different world!
If I had to do it again...I wouldn't.
