Job Title Business Outlook Survey
Office Administrator Stock plummeted drastically. Company is expanding too quickly and not upkeeping the existing stores. Stores have become uncomfortably crammed with product. Company is trying to go beyond "hunt, fish, camp" theme, but is overextending itself. Stock rooms were shrunk for sales floor expansion, but we began receiving twice as much product (most of which we had no use for). We were able to trump all competetion in our area, but stores near a Cabela's didn't fare as well. Company gave us freedom to "deal" with customers as needed to retain business and stay one step ahead of everyone else. AT MY PARTICULAR STORE: Women seem to be something of a necessary evil to this company. Promotions were impossible to come by. I watched several exceptionally qualified women get passed over while a poorly qualified, and sometimes obviously dishonest, man was offered the position. Male sales managers also seemed to make more than women in the same job. There was a pervasive idea that female workers should be cute and act dumb, otherwise you were just a "@itch". It didn't seem to be as bad at our other stores in the general area, but it wasn't that much better, either. Employee morale was amazing at the beginning, up until I was there for about 2 years. Right before I quit, I used to dread going to work because not only was my day going to be miserable, but I would listen to everyone else I worked with be miserable as well. IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO WORK HERE AND ADVANCE: Be willing to accept all transfers. They like to move good people around, and you will move up much, much quicker. Don't turn down too many transfers, or you are dead in the water. It's not a bad place to work all considered. I'm sure I had unusual circumstances, and not all stores will be like the one I worked in. But if you seriously enjoy the outdoors, even just take a part-time job here, if nothing else it's worth the 20% discount.
