The company is a highly respected engineering/consulting firm servicing
many high profile clients in several industries. Working there
fluctuated between periods of fast paced demanding work with high
expectations and periods of inactivity. The culture was somewhat
liberal in a conservative industry, jeans and sneakers were the norm.
When the company was busy you are required to work more hours and take
on more work while maintaining the same level of efficiency. When work
was not coming in the door, you had to struggle to stay chargeable to a
client. Opportunities for advancement existed and were based on a
consistent level of progress in your career development. Other factors
also existed that were out of your control. Promotions went to groups
that generated the most revenue for the company and generated the most
work. The projects that you were exposed to were challenging and
allowed you constantly learn while you worked.
