The general attitude at Fulbright among associates is that it's a place
you go to to build your resume then move onto something better. People
aren't really friends with their co-workers, and there is definitely a
firm hierarchy. Secretaries and legal assistants are treated like "the
help" and are better seen and not heard.
The dress code is allegedly business casual, but there is an underlying
pressure to kick it up a notch. The firm has some serious diversity
issues, and they are not very good at adressing those issues. Many of
the minority summer associates felt that non-minority summers got more
dinner and lunch invitations. I was personally made to feel like I
didn't quite belong, and often felt as if I were merely there so they
could claim to have both their highest number of minority summers and 2
African-American partners in the same year. I never got the feeling
that I would ever belong or be accepted there.
