My base salary is $118,000 based on being a 5th year associate. There was no
signing bonus. Base salaries are adjusted effective January 1st. A fiscal
year-end bonus is paid in May. Part is discretionary based on how the firm did
as a whole. Part is earned based upon meeting billable hour quotas (1900). A
third component of the bonus is a 10% fee generation bonus for new clients
brought into the firm.
The firm is not the leader in salary. However, the firm has taken some steps as
other firms have raised their starting salaries for first year associates in the
Philadelphia/New Jersey market. They take a top-down approach. That is, first
year associates get the full effect of the bump and it smooths out the more
experienced you are. Even so, the firm is still lagging behind other firms in
terms of salary.
