I can only speak from the Marketing, Sales and Service perspective on
the salary packages offered at Ford. The salary package is strictly
based on what school you graduated from as well as your GPA. For those
of you who have prior work experience, that is of no consideration to
Ford. You basically do not exsist until you work for the company. With
that being said, typical undergrads start at a salary in the range of
42 - 45k. The typical MBA salary ranges from 65k - 75k, keeping in mind
that where you went to school is extremely important. For example, my
starting salary was $69k whereas the Thunderbird grads started at 74k.
There are those select few MBAers who went to top 10 schools that can
enter into the workplace at the management level making six figure
income. I did receive a signing bonus of $5,000 and the relocation
package was fair.
Benefits at Ford are decent, however, given the state of the company,
many cutbacks have been made in this area. Upon hiring, I was told the
average bonus to all employees was 10k. However, my first year with the
company I received no bonus as the company was in the red. My second
year I receive $160.00. A far cry from what was anticipated at my
interview. Another cutback in benefits was in their 401k, whereas Ford
is no longer providing any type of matching contribution. Other smaller
perks were cut such as the company provided free desktop computers to
employees (just a basic model which could be upgraded) and internet
service through PeoplePC for $5.00 per month. Ford also provided
bonus "flex dollars" which assisted your healthcare decisions. These
flex dollars were negligible.
On the positive side, the company has an extremely generous holiday
plan. In 2003 we received 16 holidays and in 2004 we will be receiving
18 holidays. The vacation policy is typical of other companies,
however, in years 3-5 you receive 12.5 days per year, whereas in years 5-
10 you receive 15 days per year. Furthermore, if you become a manager,
you receive at least 15 days per year regardless of how long you have
worked for the company.
As Ford is in the automotive industry, all employees are entitled to
recieve discounts on vehicle purchases and may extend those discounts to
immediate family members. If you are considered a traveling employee
(working out in the field)you recieve a car (the company also pays for
the insurance), a laptop and cell phone. Management are also eligible
to participate in the management lease program which provides them with
a vehicle at huge discounts.
