Entered the company in manufacturing - came from banking industry. What
culture shock! As a woman, I was appalled by the things some people
said and the crass language at the plants. I have now learned that this
is just the blue-collar culture.
At Corporate, in Product Development, I have learned a great deal.
MAnagement expects a great deal from everyone because of personnel
reductions and the assignments you get are challenging because the
company is so huge. Finding the right person to answer your questions
is the biggest challenge sometimes. There is great attention to detail
and I know I've become a strong analyst in the two years I've spent in
Product Development.
The company has fully funded my MBA and I am graduating in December.
My managers have always been very flexible, mindful of each
individual's "work-life" balance. Times are tough here and it can be a
challenge to have any kind of work-life balance. But when times were
great for the company, working here was easy as pie.
The pay and benefits are incredible so it's hard to complain no matter
what kind of hours you work!
Opportunities for advancement - it's a true meritocracy but there's
plenty of politics - especially if you are not well-liked or branded as
a "troublemaker". I bet it's the same at any company - nobody wants a
lame candidate to make it far.
