I always found Ford a great place to work (when the company was doing
well). I found abundant opportunities for developmental assignments and
the company paid for my MBA. But since the automotive downturn,
opportunities for advancement have been severely limited even for top
performers. All promotions within Finance have been frozen for the past
few years which translates into a long waiting line for advancement for
any new comers to the company. This policy has translated into
frustration and poor morale for most existing Finance employees.
Even though I have left the company, I would recommend pursuing a career
with Ford if you don't mind an environment which is not overly "touchy
feely" or compassionate and rather bureaucratic. Your experiences will
definitely be what you make of them. So if you're the type of person
who takes control of your career and will seek out challenging
assignments for yourself you should be able to avoid getting lost in the
masses.
