If you value your mental health, stay away!! Management does not know
how people work, as long as one person is keeping the "numbers" looking
good, the others are allowed to mess up on a consistant basis. It takes
an effort to know who is doing what, and 99% of management won't make it.
Product presidents condone or are unaware of customer service reps
defeating system checks. Most of my managers have been abusive or
incompetant, the good ones left. The first thing new managers especially
director level or above find out is that they have to overcome problems
from 20 years ago, and most quit trying shortly after coming aboard,
they have too much to handle. Formal system design methodologies are
never used unless the customer mandates it, Product Presidents can't
bring customers on in that long a time frame.
Problem employees are often kept because they are the only back up to
product experts, and it is rare that formal cross-training is done. I
have literally been told "I don't know anything about that, it's not
my 'system/customer' anymore!!!"
