Overall business is excellent. There are some great thinkers at the top
levels and the Beauty Bank division seems to be extremely innovative.
Products have great brand awareness and cache.
The company has an opportunity when evaluating channels of distribution
as it is heavily tied into the fate of department store retailers, who
are not the most adaptive bunch of people.
At the entry-level, the company has to rethink its recruiting procedures.
The slow rate of promotion and low starting salaries mean fast-paced,
ambitious people will leave as soon as they have adequately "stamped"
their career passports. I've seen this happen with many of the brightest
young managers leaving for competitors. Unfortunately, many people with
long tenures in just one brand are conservative thinkiers content to
uphold the status quo.
