Initial contact: Contact from an outside recruiting firm. This was
interesting because I got calls from 3 head-hunting firms in the exact
same week in Q3 2004. After initial review, I had a screeing interview
with HR. After HR was convinced I was not a psycho nutcase and as far
as they could tell, my credentials appeared authentic, I was referred
to a Partner for a phone interview. This was followed by an office
visit where I had 7 or 8 interviews. Each interview had a 75% focus on
previous business experience and 25% focus on behavioral questions. No
case study questions. They also focused on asking me why I wanted to
leave my previous firm and client. I had a very good case for this and
had them convinced. I felt this was critical.
Now I am involved in recruiting and understand that there is a heavy
focus on Financial Services Industry experience which is not surprising
considering that we hire people from the Federal Reserve and the SEC.
This also brings in a good network that defintiely helps when it comes
to selling work.
There has also been an increased focus on hiring Staff level positions.
(The career track is Staff - Senior 1,2,3 - Manager, S. Manager, then
Partner, Director, or Associate Director). We make a heavy effort to
focus on certain schools in the region where we can have deep
realtionships with prefessors, deans, and career center to get the best
students early. We focus on the schools that have the best track record
at placing students in the cities we have our offices in. The end goal
in to get a high rate of acceptance without getting into a bargaining
situation.
On MBA hiring for Senior positions, again the focus is on a few key
schools in the area. We are meeting with Career Centers and Deans of
schools and programs we are interested (MBAs and M.Acctg by the way)to
id candidates early.
